Behind the Wheel 101
- St. Michael-Albertville Community Education Driver Education program is NOT affiliated with any other driving school in the area.
- Do not schedule Behind the Wheel (BTW) with the BTW Coordinator if your student was not enrolled/completed Driver Education through St. Michael-Albertville Community Education!
- Only students who completed Driver Education through the St. Michael-Albertville Community Education are allowed to schedule Behind the Wheel lessons with our instructors.
After passing the Written Test (for the Instruction Permit), email the BTW Coordinator/Instructor at: stmabtw@gmail.com. Connie Peters is the Coordinator and is also a BTW Instructors. Students will then be put on the BTW Training List.
Please provide the following information in the body of your email:
Full LEGAL name of student (first, middle, last name)
Date of Birth
Contact person name and cell phone number
Student cell phone number (if applicable)
Date student passed Permit Test
Students begin driving with parents/guardians and logging hours as soon as they have their Instruction Permit.
Log Behind the Wheel hours using either the Supervised Driving Log that was provided during the Driver Education class or use the Road Ready App.
- The Behind the Wheel log must be turned into DVS when taking the Road Test. Make sure to print the log if using the Road Ready App.
- Remember, it can take up to a year (or more) for students to log the required number of Behind the Wheel hours.
Please be aware: Additional Behind the Wheel fees (currently $60) will be charged for the following reasons if student:
- Is late for their scheduled lesson (please be prompt)
- Misses the lesson altogether
- Doesn't have a valid Permit or just doesn't have their Permit with them when they arrive for their lesson
- Lesson is cancelled less than 48 hours in advance
The fees must be paid before any additional lessons will be scheduled. Additional fees apply if student is unprepared two or more times.
