Adult Basic Education ABE & General Education Diploma GED and English as a Second Language ESL

West Adult Basic Education (ABE)

A free Community Education program to help adults aged 17 or older develop their
basic skills such as reading, writing, math, work skills, English and technology.
(Students must not be enrolled in secondary school)

English As A Second Language (ESL):
For individuals whose first language is not English. Emphasis is on pronunciation, vocabulary, speaking, reading, and writing. Friendly classroom setting. Pre-Literacy/Beginning to Advanced Level Groups. Students use books, iPads, and computers to learn in a teacher-led class. There is no fee for these classes, just show up.

MORNING Class (ESL):

Mondays & Wednesdays (Class begins Sept. 6)
9:00am - 11:30am 
Classes are ongoing

Free childcare is available by calling 763-497-6550 at least two days prior to class.

There is no fee for this class. No registration necessary, just show up.

Tuesdays & Thursdays (Class begins Sept. 12)
Classes are ongoing
6:00pm - 8:30pm

GED & Basic Skills Information:
What is Adult Basic Education (ABE)? ABE is for any adult whose basic skills (math, reading, and writing) are below the 12th grade level on a pretest - even if the person has a high school diploma. This includes language learners that need help to improve their English, math, reading, and writing for themselves, a job, a GED, or college entrance. There is no fee for this class, just show up.

GED Evening Class (Thursday evening only):

Thursdays 
6:30pm - 9:00pm

ESL/ABE Transitions Class:
This class is open to ESL students who have exited ESL or are at a high advanced level. Students can study for their GED, college prep, or basic skills. Instruction will be focused on the individual's needs, plus increased understanding, pronunciation, and usage of the English language. There is no fee for this class, just show up.
